Inspired by our Christian values and in response to the Great Commission, we have identified and introduced three principal solutions to all the needs of the people, the communities and the countries that we serve: Jesus, Education, Work (JOB). True change comes from within, in order to break the cycle of poverty, sickness and darkness we must first start with the heart. Our mission is to follow the command of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ in working with the poorest of the poor and oppressed, promoting human transformation as we RESCUE, RELIEVE, RESTORE and EMPOWER. After accepting an invitation to visit the Haitian missionary, Pastor Bither and his wife were confronted with the hopelessness of these people. Haiti Neurosurgery Initiative (HNI) was founded by Emory University neurosurgeons and a dedicated core of like-minded individuals.
We feel passionately about bringing quality healthcare to underserved populations and believe that a rotation-based model of coverage holds the potential to facilitate long-term capacity development.
We chose Haiti as the location to develop this model of clinical support because of its lack of neurosurgical coverage, the uniquely developed clinical setting provided at l'Hopital Universitaire de Mirebalais (HUM), and support from Partners In Health/Zanmi Lasante (PIH/ZL) staff that this model of coverage could support long-term neurosurgical capacity development.
