CARE (Cooperation for American Relief Everywhere)
Long Business Description

CARE was founded in 1945 when 22 American organizations came together to rush lifesaving CARE Packages to survivors of World War II. Thousands of Americans, including President Harry S. Truman, contributed to the effort. On May 11, 1946, the first 15,000 packages reached the battered port of Le Havre, France.

These early packages were U.S. Army surplus "10-in-1" food parcels intended to provide one meal for 10 soldiers during the planned invasion of Japan. We obtained them at the end of the war and began a service that let Americans send the packages to friends and families in Europe, where millions were in danger of starvation. Ten dollars bought a CARE Package and guaranteed that its addressee would receive it within four months.

Colorado Haiti Project (CHP) Inc.
Long Business Description

The Colorado Haiti Project has been working with community leaders in the rural town of Petit Trou de Nippes for over 28 years, supporting community-driven programs in education, community health, water and hygiene, girls’ and women’s empowerment, and agriculture. We provide resources to Haitian leaders, building bridges from the U.S. to Haiti that provide vital support for local vision and leadership.

The Colorado Haiti Project was founded in 1989 by three Episcopal priests: Haitian Father Octave LaFontant and Coloradans Fathers Dayle Casey and Father Ed Morgan. Over time, we have transitioned from direct service missions to a strong emphasis on local leadership. Today, our work reaches a broad audience both within and outside of the Colorado and Haitian Episcopal communities. Our work is not specific to one faith and does not advance a particular religious ideology.

Hearts with Haiti inc.
Long Business Description

Hearts with Haiti was founded in 2001 by a group of like-minded friends and supporters that had known the wonderful mission of the St. Joseph Family for years. They recognized a need for an official nonprofit organization in the United States to support the homes of the St. Joseph Family, Haiti, and provide an avenue for tax-deductible donations from other supporters throughout the United States. Today, our Board Members have been to Haiti hundreds of times, led thousands of volunteers from throughout the United States, Canada, and abroad, and worked together with the St. Joseph Family to establish a community of support that spans all fifty states. During this time, this grassroots enterprise has raised nearly $6 million for the St. Joseph Family and done so with very minimal administrative overhead.

Our Board and staff are comprised of a team of smart, dedicated individuals who take their volunteer and professional responsibilities very seriously. Many of us travel to Haiti one or more times a year on mission trips and personal visits with the Family, and we communicate regularly with the St. Joseph staff, through cell phone, email, Skype, IM, and Facebook. We like to stay in touch with the programs our contributions support, and we are always encouraged when we see our donors’ gifts “in action.”

This is a ministry of faith, trust, and heart. We have worked with the St. Joseph Family through times of plenty and times of scarcity – through joy and grief – and through disaster and resurrection from the rubble. We have seen the lives of hundreds of young people in Haiti shaped by this mission, and our U.S. supporters regularly report their own transformative change. While Hearts with Haiti and the St. Joseph Family are two separate entities with separate governance, staff, and practices, we share many common memories, goals, and work in partnership as a family united in a common vision – to enable Haiti’s children to be the very best they can be and inspire the lives of others through their servant leadership.

Together with the St. Joseph Family, we realize that we depend each and every day on the goodwill of our supporters to have the faith, courage, and conviction to support a ministry working towards sustainable change in Haiti. Today we need your support more than ever as we seek to fully rebuild all the facilities destroyed during the devastation of the 2010 earthquake and keep the SJF going strong for years to come.

Konbit Mizik
Business Name
Long Business Description

Konbit Mizik Corp. is a NYS 501(c)3 non-profit corporation (EIN # 45-2704968) based in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Originally conceived as a project in the wake of the 2010 earthquake to provide financial relief and joy to Haiti’s talented musical youth, producer & keyboardist Ian Evans teamed up with filmmaker Nick Cannell and they began to seek, record, and film artists in some of the most neglected parts of Port-au-Prince.

With a common love for music and strong community support, Konbit Mizik's name and recognition grew throughout the streets of Haiti. In 2011, we incorporated and expanded the mission of Konbit Mizik to truly leverage the power of music as a vehicle for social transformation. In August 2013, we received tax-exempt status from the IRS.

OVERVIEW

Konbit Mizik uses music to engage youth in grassroots organizing, community service, education and development. We accomplish our mission by breaking it into 3 parts:

1) to provide free production, video, and career management services to local, underground musical artists in Haiti

2)[In Development] We are developing a platform to support teachers and classrooms in need of crucial supplies for their students, bought and delivered locally in Haiti.

3) to mobilize communities throughout Haiti with collective action to address local problems and uplift those least fortunate

OUR TRANSPARENCY & ACCOUNTABILITY

Konbit Mizik requires that over 75% of our budget goes directly to program services. All funds expended are reviewed, categorized, and authorized by the multilingual staff of WND Accounting, Inc. to assure complete transparency to our donors.

CONCLUSION

Konbit Mizik is a culturally- and historically-conscious NGO and we simultaneously reject the perpetuation of Haiti’s dependency on international agencies while we celebrate Haiti’s beauty and riches with the world.

As our movement grows from the ghettos to the mountaintops, Konbit Mizik steadfastly remains committed to “le voix tout moun” or “the voice of the people.”
