Haiti Rising
Business Name
Long Business Description

After traveling to Haiti on a service mission to aid in the construction of an orphanage, the founding members of Haiti RIsing were struck by a devastating reality: without access to education, the vibrant and curious children at the orphanage would stand little chance of thriving as adults in an already impoverished country. Basic primary and secondary school education is available only to those children whose families have the means to pay; there is virtually no public education system in Haiti. Without private funding, abandoned and orphaned Haitian children have no chance of attending school. Haiti Rising was born out of the commitment to give these children access to quality education.

Hearts with Haiti inc.
Long Business Description

Hearts with Haiti was founded in 2001 by a group of like-minded friends and supporters that had known the wonderful mission of the St. Joseph Family for years. They recognized a need for an official nonprofit organization in the United States to support the homes of the St. Joseph Family, Haiti, and provide an avenue for tax-deductible donations from other supporters throughout the United States. Today, our Board Members have been to Haiti hundreds of times, led thousands of volunteers from throughout the United States, Canada, and abroad, and worked together with the St. Joseph Family to establish a community of support that spans all fifty states. During this time, this grassroots enterprise has raised nearly $6 million for the St. Joseph Family and done so with very minimal administrative overhead.

Our Board and staff are comprised of a team of smart, dedicated individuals who take their volunteer and professional responsibilities very seriously. Many of us travel to Haiti one or more times a year on mission trips and personal visits with the Family, and we communicate regularly with the St. Joseph staff, through cell phone, email, Skype, IM, and Facebook. We like to stay in touch with the programs our contributions support, and we are always encouraged when we see our donors’ gifts “in action.”

This is a ministry of faith, trust, and heart. We have worked with the St. Joseph Family through times of plenty and times of scarcity – through joy and grief – and through disaster and resurrection from the rubble. We have seen the lives of hundreds of young people in Haiti shaped by this mission, and our U.S. supporters regularly report their own transformative change. While Hearts with Haiti and the St. Joseph Family are two separate entities with separate governance, staff, and practices, we share many common memories, goals, and work in partnership as a family united in a common vision – to enable Haiti’s children to be the very best they can be and inspire the lives of others through their servant leadership.

Together with the St. Joseph Family, we realize that we depend each and every day on the goodwill of our supporters to have the faith, courage, and conviction to support a ministry working towards sustainable change in Haiti. Today we need your support more than ever as we seek to fully rebuild all the facilities destroyed during the devastation of the 2010 earthquake and keep the SJF going strong for years to come.

Long Business Description

Konbit Haiti exists to develop the poorest and most marginalized in society. We empower impoverished communities to create sustainable change by developing the family, business, and the environment.

We work with locals to provide the opportunities they need to change their environment. Our current focus is on the poorer and neglected communities in Montrouis, Haiti, and the remote mountain villages behind the city.

We partner with the local community to provide the opportunities for an under resourced community to grow holistically. We aim to help develop the unmet needs in a community by partnering with locals for sustained transformation. We do so by focusing on:

a) The Family: Breakdown of the family environment can lead to sever attrition of a communities health. We focus on helping local families by training and empowering them in order to help restore communities ability to sustain and develop themselves. Konbit Haiti currently impacts the family by training women, children, and couples via annual conferences and after school programs.

b) Business: We aim to help develop the local economy and support Konbit Haiti's own operations and ministries through local business. By developing and discipling locals with the ability to run honest, innovative, and profitable businesses, we will be able to inspire and lead those within the community to also dream and innovate. By not only creating jobs, but developing local businesses, Konbit Haiti will have the ability to create a profound local impact on the community. Our main focus are those in extreme poverty, aiming to create immediate growth in the local economy. We train our staff to be leaders in the community. As we develop businesses, the indigenous leaders have more ability to disciple those coming out of cyclic poverty. Current businesses and projects include: Konbit Haiti moringa superfood products, Konbit Haiti women's sewing co-op, local small business loans and development.

c) The Environment: Caring for and developing the earth is essential to creating the means for communities and individuals to have a self-sustainable livelihood. Konbit Haiti aims to focus on the environment in order to restore the opportunities naturally provided by the earth, we currently do so through the following efforts: locally led water, sanitation, and hygiene projects and training; recycling programs; agricultural training and development; and food co-operatives.

Projects for Haiti, Inc or P4H Global
Long Business Description

During their undergraduate years at the University of Florida, Priscilla Zelaya, Ph.D. and Bertrhude Albert, Ph.D. co-founded P4H Global, formerly Projects for Haiti. They had traveled to Haiti, separately on several occasions and realized that they shared an unwavering passion for the Haitian people. They became determined to find a way to significantly contribute to the rebuilding of Haiti.

On March 5th, 2011, Priscilla and Bertrhude took a group of 19 UF students to Cap-Haitien, Haiti. Although they had no prior experience organizing international trips, they were confident that this trip would have a significant impact on the Haitian people. To their surprise, their impact was significant but was not positive. For months leading up the trip, Priscilla and Bertrhude had their team collect over 1,000 pounds of shoes, clothes, and food. They were confident that bringing mountains of supplies would help the Haitian people. After 7 days of distributing food and clothes, Priscilla and Bertrhude sought feedback from Haitian leaders in the community. The Haitian leaders told Priscilla and Bertrhude that because of the missions trip, many merchants in the community were going to lose business for weeks to come. Although the trip was designed to help the Haitian people, it ended up hurting the community.
Upon return to the US, Priscilla and Bertrhude committed to understanding how to truly help vulnerable populations. Fueled by their faith, for months after their trip they discussed what it meant to live out Micah 6:8, “Seek justice, love mercy, walk Humbly with your God”. They knew that seeking justice meant moving past seeing Haitians an object of sympathy. They knew seeking justice meant using their hearts and minds when helping. Priscilla and Bertrhude became convinced that although most Haitians live abject poverty, circumstances don’t determine their potential.

As they sought to further understand sustainable development, Priscilla and Bertrhude decided to make P4H Global an official organization. By July 6, 2011, P4H was incorporated as a Nonprofit Business in the state of Florida. By December 5, 2011, P4H was a 501(c)3 Nonprofit as outlined by the IRS. In the early years of formation, P4H committed to putting the development needs of the Haitian people above the self-gratifying desire to help. Years later this commitment continues to guide every program and trip P4H hosts.
