IHDO is a 501(C)(3) nonprofit organization, founded in 1999 to provide preventative women's health care in Haiti.
Cervical cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer related death in Haitian women. Pap smears prevent cervical cancer, but, like many other preventative screening measures, are not widely performed in Haiti. IHDO runs an annual health screening campaign - coinciding with Haitian mother's day at the end of May - to perform pap smears and physical exams. More importantly, IHDO's physician and nurse volunteers train Haitian doctors and nurses how to perform pap smears and on the importance of preventative health care, so they may continue this important mission and change the face of healthcare in Haiti.

Promoting Health In Haiti was founded to provide support for Haitian schools of nursing. The organization’s goal is to create collaborations between North American and Haitian schools of nursing, in order to develop Bachelor’s level and Master’s level nursing education; so that nurses will have the training they need to provide the complex care they are called on to deliver, in hospitals and in outpatient settings.
