“Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be save, but whoever does not believe will be condemned” Mark 16:15-16
God’s mission is our mission! We are evangelizing remote areas of Haiti, sharing the Gospel through various means, making disciples of new converts, planting churches, and distributing Bibles.
As we go out on “God’s Mission” specifically for what He is calling us to, the amount of grace given by God is always overwhelming. As we see more people come on board here and in Haiti, the multiplier effect of what God is doing through His people is over and above what we can ask or imagine.

In 2003, Wade McGuinn, who owns McGuinn Holdings, a construction management company in Lexington, South Carolina, embarked on a mission trip to Jeremie, Haiti and it was there he discovered his life’s calling. In 2005, while in Jeremie, he was led to the home of a local Haitian, Jean Renal Alexander, who was caring for 8 abandoned children in his home when he was barely able to care for himself. When Wade returned home, he and his wife Janet were compelled to help. As such, Haiti Children Project was founded. Both McGuinns currently serve on Haiti Children Project’s Board, speak to groups throughout the country and lead many discovery trips to Haiti throughout the year for potential donors. The McGuinns believe that Haiti Children Project’s Next Generation Program is their calling in life and they continue to work tirelessly to ensure that Haiti Children Project is fully endowed in time for their impending retirement.
Service is a nice concept but we often use the word without any true allegiance to what the Lord expects of his servants. The following are ideas that fit quite nicely with our theology of Christian Community Development, this special time of year when we celebrate the offering of Christ as the Servant who would save the world.
1. A servant does not have a message of his own. He is the mouthpiece of His Master. Just as an ambassador is expected to promote the views of his country and government, so also the servant of God is His representative on earth and His message is Reconciliation as Paul puts it, ‘you are ambassadors of reconciliation. Christ’s birth, life, death, and resurrection solidified that message.
2. A servant does not have a country of his own. He is only a pilgrim in a foreign land until His Master calls him home or to another destination. As a servant of God, where He calls us is where we need to be. Relocation is the mind of Christ that we should have during our pilgrimage here on earth. He left the splendor of heaven for the lowest possible state of human existence. None of us could ever match such a sacrifice.
3. A servant does not have any possessions of his own. He is only the manager of His Master’s resources. This could be the best of both worlds if we start on the right footing. It is always such fun to spend someone else’s money.
This is the opportunity to return unto the Lord what is rightfully his (The earth is the Lord’s and all who live in it) and at the same time be able to spend it for the aggrandizement of his kingdom here on earth. This is the very essence of Redistribution

Haiti Mission Connection began as a small social justice effort at St. Mark parish in Peoria, in the early 1980's. Through the years we have expanded to become Haiti Mission Connection with people of many faiths and from beyond the Peoria area. Teams of people traveled to Haiti to a sister parish in Chauffard and then to Sts. James and Philip parish in Jacmel. In 1998 Bishop Poulard requested we begin a mission to an impoverished rural area in the mountains of Southeast Haiti, the town of Bodarie.
In our first mission we asked the community leaders what needs they saw in their community that we might help with. Their answer was clean water, education, and medical care. Since then we have kept these needs in mind. We have introduced a water purification program to be used by individual homes, which has been helpful in decresing the amount of sickness from water borne pathogens.
We held medical missions in Bodarie for several years but decided to sponsor a nurse to be present in the village for ongoing medical care and follow up of chronic disease. She can refer patients to the dispensary in Thiotte, with which we have established a connection. We continue to go on medical missions each year.

In 2005, Dr. Nadège T Clitandre, at the time a Ph.D. student at the University of California, Berkeley, had a conversation with her father, Haitian novelist and Journalist Pierre A. Clitandre, at his home in Carrefour-Feuilles, Port-au-Prince. Mr. Clitandre, who had been exiled in 1980 to the United States and returned to Haiti in the mid-1990s, wanted to contribute to the country’s development, especially in regards to its youth (a sizeable demographic in Haiti- 40% of the population is under 15). As they talked, Mr. Clitandre pointed out that the community did not have a library. In fact, public libraries as we know them in the United States are rare in Haiti. Sadly, the literacy rate is 60 percent, much lower than the average literacy rate for Latin America and Caribbean nations. Less than thirty-five percent of children finish primary school, and less than two percent finish secondary school. Libraries are vital to a child’s educational and social development. The two came up with an idea to start a community library, Bibliothèque du Soleil, where children, teens and adults could all come to share their ideas, interests and concerns; to have a safe, comforting place to go to read and engage with others; and to check out books and bring them home to share with their families.
The mission of Haiti Soleil is to build and develop community-centered public libraries, museums, and other institutions of educational and cultural exchange focused on advancing the intellectual growth of young Haitian citizens. Haiti Soleil spearheads projects on behalf of, and in partnership with, individuals and organizations in Haiti that share similar principles and dedication to the dissemination of knowledge.
