Action Against Hunger fights hunger through the prevention, detection and treatment of malnutrition, especially during and after emergency situations of war, conflict and natural disaster. To tackle the underlying causes of malnutrition and its effects, we use our expertise in nutrition, food security, water and sanitation, health and advocacy. Integrating our programs with local and national structures helps ensure long-term sustainability.

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) was founded in 1971 in France by a group of doctors and journalists in the wake of war and famine in Biafra. Their aim was to establish an independent organisation that focuses on delivering emergency medicine aid quickly, effectively and impartially.
Three hundred volunteers made up the organisation when it was founded: doctors, nurses and other staff, including the 13 founding doctors and journalists.
MSF was created in the belief that all people should have access to healthcare regardless of gender, race, religion, creed or political affiliation, and that people’s medical needs outweigh respect for national boundaries. MSF’s principles of action are described in our charter, which established a framework for our activities.

1964. The economic boom. Italy was growing out of post-war poverty when the Movement for the Fight against Hunger in the World (MLFM) was born in Lodi. The president of Catholic Action, Arnaldo Moretti, flanked by Antonio Allegri and Angelo Cambiè, gathered a tight group of collaborators and started developing projects together with the Mani Tese association in Milan, which supported the Pime (Pontifical Institute for Foreign Missions) missionaries in poverty-stricken locations. The head office was initially located in the diocesan administration of Lodi, but the next year it was moved to 73 Via Cavour. Right from the start, the decision to have an autonomous space served a specific purpose: to mark the independence of the Movement from the diocesan missionary work affiliated with the Church.
