On Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at 4:53pm the nation of Haiti was ravaged with an earthquake that measured 7.0. The epicenter of the earthquake was in the town of Leogane. The residents of Leogane and the nation of Haiti will never be the same.
Soon after the earthquake, the Georgia Baptist Convention sent a scouting team to see how we as Baptists churches from the U.S. could minister to the people of Leogane. They rented a house in the city, affectionately named it the Georgia House and began to bring teams into minister to those devastated by the disaster.
In partnership with the Georgia Baptist Convention, Baptists 4 Haiti, Inc. is continuing the ministry started by GBC Disaster Relief. Baptists 4 Haiti took over the Georgia House and the surrounding ministries in November 2011 and started full swing with volunteers in February this year. Since February we have had over 150 volunteers who have ministered to more than 5,000 Haitian people. So far our missionaries and teams have had the privilege of being involved in leading 57 people to a new relationship with Jesus Christ! These teams have built a roof for a church, a kitchen for an orphanage and completed their well, and have been able to meet physical needs of nearly 1,500 Haitian people through mobile medical clinics.
We have committed to rebuilding 26 homes and 15 churches. It is our prayer that many more churches, ministries, and individuals will come alongside to support and partner with our efforts. We are looking for 100 churches and organizations to partner with us to continue God’s ministry to the people of Leogane, Haiti. We are asking for each church or organization to contribute at least $1,000, pray, and send teams throughout the year. Will you help? Either by partnering financially or sending teams or both!
We would like to thank the following churches, individuals, families, and associations who are partnering with us.
